「EASY PLASTIC」
「EASY PLASTIC」Introduction:
In 1907, the American scientist Leo Baekland invented the compound Bakelite, also known as plastic. This artificial composite material is easy to manufacture, lightweight and cheap, making it a very good raw material. Plastic goods carry the connotation of being mass-produced and cheap. Today, a hundred years after the invention of plastic, plastic goods are everywhere and are an irreplaceable necessity in life.
Because plastic does not biodegrade and is man-made, plastic goods have already been labeled as vulgar, cheap and disposable. However, what about the use of plastic in art? As Marcel Duchamp made his mark on the art market with his ready-made works, various new materials were gradually appearing in contemporary art. From plastic cuttings to FRP molding, plastic is now used everywhere in artwork.
The exhibit "Easy Plastic" has a leisurely style due to the lightness and malleability of plastic. With the touch of artists, an unassuming round white bucket becoming a floating light emitter, plastic sewage pipes become a pathway that collects and conducts sound, turning plastic from mere objects into sound making devices. Various plastic materials become an breeding grounds by putting a coat over them, the coldness of acrylic becomes blooming 3D flowers in the hands of artists, and plastic hot melt adhesive sticks become an artwork of pure white that shows the leisurely times of life.
Scientists are continually doing research on plastic and coming up with new applications of plastic. In the future, when plastic blood becomes our lifesaver, can cosmetic plastic bring anything to our lives? Let's wait and see.
